University as a Driver of Innovation Development
Abstract
In the paper, some theoretical positions concerning the role of universities in the process of shaping the innovation economy are discussed. Special attention is paid to the triple helix conception. Due to this conception, the University is transformed into one of the major drivers of progressive changes by combining research, education and its new function, transfer of knowledge and technology. Based on the analysis of international experience, some requirements to structural and organizational changes to be made within universities to become real drivers of the innovation process are derived. Finally, keeping in mind that scientific publications constitute an important element of infrastructure of the innovation economy, the major tendencies of scientific journals market are outlined.
