Demographic Situation in Russia and Problems of Labor Migration
Abstract
The article considers the situation which arose in the Russian Federation in the end of the XX — beginning of the XXI centuries when the country faced with the demographic failure and heavy migration of labor force from the countries of the former USSR. The problem goes back to the 90s of the XX century,
when there was observed positive natural growth of population in the isolated economic system and internal migration. In the following years, with the fall in birth rate and open market, external migration started to prevail. According to the views of the authors, the problem is caused by the currently existing social, economic and demographic situation in Russia and in neighboring countries (which have higher birthrate despite economic underdevelopment), confessional structure of Russia and national traditions of countries with prevailing Muslim population, level of urbanization and literacy, involvement of women into production processes.
