The Reform of 1861: Grounds and Historical Lessons
Abstract
The paper analyzes some grounds of the Peasant Reform (1861) stipulated the serfdom abolition in Russia. This Reform can be characterized as a social one taking into account its aims and motives. Its economic necessity was not obvious, what can be explained by the persistent potential of the
servile economic system. The author offers a diagnosis of controversial effects of the agrarian reform. Its success in whole is proved by adjusting the sharp social conflict and further boost of economic development of the country.
