Credit in the Russian-German Trade in the XIII–XV centuries
Abstract
Credit expansion in the system of medieval Russian-German trading interrelations is the central question studied in the article. The analysis of the data with forms of credit operations and character of money circulation, size and ways of collecting interest rate, real rate of return and debt levying on the property reveals the nature of credit exchange between the largest trading centers of North-West Russia and West European countries in the frameworks of which reproduction of trading and industrial capital was carried out. The author came to the idea of a different model of the barter-credit economy formed in the Baltic region by the beginning of XV century. In this economy, a significant share of payment transactions belonged to the liabilities resulted from selling Russian exporting goods on credit.
