The Ways Out of a Crisis for Depressive Regions
Abstract
The article considers the Russian national market to be to a certain extent asymmetric, thus so called regions-leaders do coexist with depressive regions. The authors define depressive regions as characterized by a low level of GRP (Gross Regional Product) and low levels of population incomes, while the levels of unemployment and social protection expenditures are higher as compared to the same average indicators in Russia. The article reveals four main factors causing depressiveness of regions. Using their analysis of similar economic situations in developed countries, the authors propose two directions for regions development which may be used as a basis for the way out depression for these regions.
