History and the Early Period of Development of the Economic Faculty of St. Petersburg University
Abstract
The article shows that the policy of Bolshevics in 1920–1930s, oriented to rooting up the traditions of Russian political economy formed during many decades, has destroyed its potential, revealed with a vengeance in the beginning of XXth century. It was impossible to ignore the heavy crisis broken out in studying and teaching of political economy in the end of 1930s. To improve the situation, the authorities had initiated the process of creating a new “theoretical” course, namely, political economy of socialism and had opened several faculties of political economy in the central universities. The article describes the unique political situation in the state which advantaged to completing the Faculty of Political Economy of Leningrad University with the professors of extra high qualification. To the great extent due to this fact, first ten years became a heroic period if the history of the faculty.
