Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development: EU and German Experience
Abstract
In the paper, corporate social responsibility (CSR) including the strategy of sustainable development as a core element is considered as not just a business activity, but it is seen in the context of the societal development. This development is not conflict-free, on the opposite; many real conceptions of CSR appeared in the process of finding a compromise between conflicting interests of various actors of the society (business, government, trade unions). From this position, first, a renewed EU strategy 2011–14 for CSR is outlined. Second, German national forum of CSR and German national strategy are discussed. Third, historic development of legal platforms for CSR such as social security and environmental protection is studied. Fourth, special attention is paid to various conflicts in the sphere of CSR and their resolving as well as to the forms of how CSR is studied by scholars from economics and management.
