Systems of Remuneration and Academic Contracts for University Professors in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and St. Petersburg State University
Abstract
The material in the article is reviewed from the perspective of strategic goals that were stated in the Russian President’s Decree No. 599 of May 7, 2012. A special attention is given to description of management systems of two universities and to the characteristics of universities’ interaction with the academic personnel in terms of improving quality and competitiveness of the faculty in the world market of educational services.
The article analyzes methods of personnel motivation and policies of social support adopted for university professors. The paper also reviews working conditions, academic careers and recruitment and qualification procedures for academic personnel in the universities. The article formulates a set of proposals improving the systems of remuneration and academic contracts for the faculty members in the leading universities of Russia (such as Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University).
