Discussion of the Problems of Political Economy in China during the Debates in 1957
Abstract
The article is focused on criticism of official economic science by the group of economists led by Prof. Chen Zhenhan (Beijing University). The emphasis is placed to their proposals to borrow the Western concepts, to diminish the influence of dogmatism and to revise the relations between
the Government economic bodies and scholars. Theoretical counterarguments in defence of Marxist political economy elaborated during the anti-rightist campaign are analyzed. The article traces the impact of discussions of 1957 on the subsequent development of economics in China.
