Methodological and Theoretical Approaches to the Study of Financial Centers
Abstract
The central category of analysis of the capitals of capital is the fi nancial intermediation. To understand how and why financial institutions have chosen certain cities for their headquarters and principal places of business and decide how cities turned into financial centers, the author specifi es the concept of “financial intermediation”. In the theory of financial intermediation, we do ascent from “individual” to “collective” intermediation and introduce the geographical aspect. Theory of financial centers intends to transform finance from the study of abstract monetary funds or a very specific financial products associated with the various institutions and markets, to explore their spatial location, urban mechanisms of attraction and repulsion of capital.
