S. I. Ilovaysky as a Scientist, a Financier and a Teacher
Abstract
During the XIXth century, the Russian financial school was formed and developed in accordance to the classical tradition dominated in those years. In this process, a significant role was played by the graduates and teachers of Saint Petersburg University. S. I. Ilovaysky graduating from the University in 1882 and working after in the Novorossiysk University, has made a remarkable contribution to publicizing of financial knowledge. His fundamental «Textbook on Financial Law» was multiply republished and was very popular among students. This paper presents a critical analysis
of Ilovaysky’s understanding of financial problems and stresses some strengths and weaknesses of his works.
